Technology is transforming the world at a rapid pace and if there’s one sector, in particular, that’s been impacted, it’s education. Technology has provided students and teachers with a much wider range of learning resources, brought an added degree of flexibility to study and, in some cases removed learning from the classroom entirely. With that in mind, let’s take a look at five ways that tech is changing education.

  1. Apps

Mobile apps have gradually found their way into the classroom, with a wide range covering a variety of subjects. For example, students learning a language can download a teaching app such as Duolingo to aid them.

There are also apps for different aspects of study too, like referencing app Citation Maker, which can be used to create a bibliography for an essay or report.

Apps are great study tool because they make it easier for you to learn on the move – whilst traveling on the bus, standing in a queue, or sitting at the doctor’s surgery.

  1. Digital content

Some teachers are using tech to replace traditional note-taking by creating their own digital content to support student learning in and outside of the classroom.

This combination of face-to-face and online study is known as blended learning and it’s effective for encouraging students to work outside of the classroom.

One of the best platforms for creating digital content for education isGoConqr. This site helps both teachers and students create slide show presentations, flashcards, mind maps, and other key study materials.

  1. Virtual learning environments

Most course providers have virtual learning environments where students can access learning materials such as PowerPoint presentations, eBooks and quizzes online.

These platforms often serve as an online community where you can socialize with fellow students and engage in extracurricular discussions.

Some institutions have even scrapped paper submissions of assignments in favor of electronic submission, which means no more worrying about trekking to your learning center when you’re ready to submit work.

  1. Online tutoring

With various online tutoring platforms like MyTutor popping up all over the web, students now have access to a much wider pool of tutors, increasing their likelihood of finding a quality teacher.

This is supported by website algorithms which can match you with the tutor that can best fulfill your needs as a student. In addition, many providers also record tutoring sessions so you can re-watch them at your leisure.

  1. Distance learning

Some institutions have gone one step further than blended learning by offering distance learning courses where all (or the vast majority) of your learning takes place online.

These courses offer the flexibility that traditional learning courses can’t, by allowing participants to fit study around their current commitments such as work and childcare.

Advances in tech have completely changed the face of education, often making it more accessible and convenient – which is good news for everyone. That’s our list! Share your thoughts on tech and education in the comments section.
